Issue 1 - Spotlight On... dated 19th September 2025

Posted: Fri 19th Sep 2025

Dear Parents/Carers,

I hope that you and your families have had a great week. In school we have had a successful week of learning, focusing on Whole Body Learning and POWER. The children have been working particularly hard on their participation in lessons and asking questions to further their learning.

This week, we shared information with years 2 - 6 regarding school council. This year we are linking our school council to the Unicef Rights Respecting School award. School council applications are open and children can put themselves forward to be their class representative. Children who wish to put themselves forward will be required to present their application to their classes in line with the description of the role:

  • Good Listener: Listen to and understand other people's opinions and ideas.

  • Good Communicator: Express ideas clearly and effectively to your peers and in council meetings.

  • Organised and Responsible: Manage your time, tasks, and commitments for the council effectively.

  • Assertive: Confidently put forward your class's ideas during the meeting.

  • Approachable: Be easy for your classmates to talk to, ensuring everyone feels comfortable sharing their views.

  • Collaborative: Work well with other members of the school council to make positive changes in the school.

  • Committed: attend every meeting (fortnightly meetings at lunchtime).

  • Good role model - someone who follows the Biggin Hill way.

Year 6 children will also be applying for the prestigious House Captain and Vice Captain positions as well as teachers allocating roles of Prefects.

Good luck to those who wish to apply for the role!

I wish you and your families a great weekend.

Best wishes,

Mrs Lawrence

Headteacher and Safeguarding Lead
