Safeguarding Bulletin 24/25 - Issue 5 dated 2nd May 2025

Posted: Fri 2nd May 2025

Dear Parents and Carers,

This week I had the pleasure of watching the first class assembly from our Reception cohort. Tiger class shared with us what they have been learning, including life cycles and numbers to 10, as well as their beautiful singing and artwork. Well done to Tiger Class and a big thank you to Miss Turner, Mrs Thorpe and Miss Bentley for supporting the children.

Since the return after the Easter break, we have seen an increase in the number of children accessing online platforms and messaging apps and it is essential for both children and parents to understand the potential risks associated with online activity. Mobile phones have become an integral part of our children's lives, providing them with a world of information and communication at their fingertips. While this opens up exciting opportunities for learning and connection, it also exposes them to certain dangers, such as cyberbullying, inappropriate content, and privacy concerns. Please see the following page for links to ‘What Parents Need to Know’ guides.

To help manage these risks, I encourage all parents to engage in open conversations with your children about their online habits. Regularly discussing what they do online, who they interact with, and the types of content they encounter can foster a greater sense of awareness and responsibility. Introducing a digital contract or guidelines for phone usage can also be beneficial. This could include rules about screen time limits, appropriate apps, and maintaining privacy settings.

There are various monitoring systems and parental control apps available that can aid in keeping your child safe online. These tools allow you to track usage, set restrictions, and block harmful content, giving you peace of mind while your child explores the digital world. It is worth researching the options that best align with your family’s needs, as well as taking the time to understand how these tools function.

In addition to monitoring and open dialogue, I recommend educating your child about the importance of protecting their personal information. Teaching them to be cautious about sharing details online, such as their location or contact information, will empower them to be proactive in their online safety.

Your efforts to promote safe online practices will not only benefit your child but also contribute to creating a safer community for all our children. Should you have any questions or require further resources, please do not hesitate to contact me. Together, we can ensure that our children are equipped to navigate the digital landscape safely and responsibly.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Mrs Lawrence
