Dear Parents and Carers,

It was a pleasure to start the week by welcoming the parents and carers of our new prefects into school for our special prefect assembly. Awarding prefect badges was a very proud moment of my new headship - on behalf of all the staff here, congratulations to these children - what a credit to our school they are!

Prefects: William F, Ava N, Rosie K-J and Jenson L-T

Becoming an “Ambassador of the Biggin Hill Way” is something that all children in school can work towards. Achieving individual ‘values’ badges gives children the opportunity to work towards these over a period of time and achieving any one of these is a very special and important achievement.

We have had a staggering response to our ‘Team Points for Toothbrushes’ campaign. So far we have collected over 250! Our goal is 420 - please help us to get to our target for Bromley Brighter Beginnings - you can drop toothbrushes into our main reception area or via your child’s class teacher. Thank you also to the parents and carers who have donated items for the Brighter Beginnings Hampers - you can see these donations hanging up in my office window.

We are also delighted to start a lunchtime choir group for our children in KS1 and year 3. If you would like your child to participate in this, please do complete the slip and return it to your child's class teacher or via the school office.

On Tuesday, the Friends of Biggin Hill Primary School held the AGM. Joining the Friends is a great way to become involved with our school and I know they are working on a very exciting calendar of events for the school this year. If you would like to find out more, please let the school office know.

Sadly, I am very sorry to inform you all that Mr Small, who provides the most amazing ICT lessons to our children, left us on Thursday to move on to pastures new. The children and staff here are very fond of Mr Small and he has been very much part of the team here, however we all wish him and his family the very best for the future. Mr Small was treated to a very special assembly ‘BHPS style’ with the usual silliness that we are well-known for! Mr Small spent one last playtime with all the children - the children were so excited to have Mr Small out on the playground with them and I don’t think he will ever forget this!

Last week, I also held our first governors meeting for this academic year - it was great to welcome our governors ‘in person’ for the first time in a long time! Year 5 and 6 parents and carers, please remember that there is a SATS meeting on either Monday 27th at 7pm via Zoom or Tuesday 28th, 9am at school. This meeting is very important as it will explain the process of SATs in more detail and also answer any questions or queries you may have.

I am also delighted to advise that Ms Reed has been appointed as our new Science Lead and has joined our leading learning team. On behalf of all the staff here, I would like to extend my congratulations to Ms Reed.

Finally, our open days are fast approaching and we hope to attract as many parents and carers as possible with children who are due to start school in September 2022. Posters have been placed in our community and our open days are advertised here on our website. If you do know of any families with children due to start school in September 2022, please ask them to look at our website and contact us if they have any questions.

My very best wishes for a wonderful weekend.

Mrs Freeman
