Dear Parents and Carers,

A very warm welcome back to a half term which we hope will be filled with creative learning and festive fun!

We have been very busy hatching our plans for the next 6 weeks and we are aiming to ensure that our children experience the usual Christmas term that we very much enjoy here at BHPS!

It was a pleasure to welcome parents and carers to 6W’s class assembly this morning - thank you so much for coming and supporting the children. It was amazing finding out all about their learning and their enthusiasm really did shine through - well done to them all! A very special ‘thank you’ to Miss Wigfield for preparing the children so well and her work towards the assembly.

We have had a very busy first week back and the children had a brilliant start to the term with the most fabulous assembly from Rocksteady on Tuesday. I think it is fair to say that by 9.30am on Tuesday morning, BHPS had raised the roof!

On Wednesday, children from R-Y6 enjoyed fantastic spooktacular Halloween discos. The Friends of BHPS put so much effort and work into providing a brilliant evening for the children to enjoy. On behalf of the children, we would like to pass on our thanks to the Friends of BHPS for organising these events for the school and also thanks must go to our parent helpers on the night. A very special ‘thank you’ to Mrs Smith for organising the disco events and Mr Appleby for his amazing disco set up and DJ skills!

We hope that many of our families enjoyed the Halloween trail, also organised by the Friends of BHPS. They really have done a magnificent job of bringing our children some Halloween fun!

Also, on 31st October, Mrs Spear decorated the lunch hall in a ‘Halloween’ theme, so the children could all join in a little Halloween fun at lunch time. A special ‘thank you’ to Mrs Spear for making this just that little bit more special for our children.

We would also like to thank Mrs Corr and the Friends of BHPS for organising the Christmas cards for us this year - this is such a lovely initiative for the children and also a brilliant fundraiser for the school!

This week we held a special assembly around firework safety. As much as we want our children to enjoy fireworks and bonfire night, it is really important that children understand the dangers associated with fireworks.

Yesterday in school we started selling poppies and merchandise for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal and have a supply of zip pulls, reflectors, silicon wristbands, snap bands and rubbers for sale. If children would like to purchase any items, they can bring in some money (in a named envelope) so they can support the Poppy Appeal. We will be selling items up to and including 11th November.

Thank you for supporting us with our ‘Shower Gel for Stickers’ campaign this week. Bromley Brighter Beginnings is a fabulous local charity that supports families in need, and we are delighted to be able to support them as a school community.

Next week we will be writing to families about the Christmas fair - so please look out for a letter. More information about our in-school activities for the Christmas period will follow in the coming weeks.

We are very much looking forward to hosting our open days next week on Monday 7th November at 1.30pm and Tuesday 8th November at 9.30am. If you know of any families with children due to start school in September 2023, please let them know and encourage them to come and have a look! We have written to our pre-school families, other local pre-schools and advertised our open events in the local community, on our website, on Twitter and via Facebook so we hope to be in a position to show many prospective parents and carers around our school.

We are sure that this will be a fantastic half term for the children and one that they will have fun-filled memories of!

Don’t forget to tell EVERYONE you know about our OPEN DAYS!

Our very best wishes,

Mrs Freeman - Headteacher and Designated Safeguarding Lead

Mrs Lawrence - SENCo, Deputy Headteacher and Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead
