Michael Rosen Class
In maths we will be working on place value. We will recognise the value of each digit in a 2-digit number, partition 2 digit numbers into tens and ones, and identify numbers using different representations. We will be practising counting on and back in 2s and 5s from 0, and in 10s from any number.
We will be doing phonics and guided reading every day. We will practise blending sounds into words and using sounds to write words. We will begin to read more common exception words and discuss what we have read. When writing, we will form our cursive letters correctly and write capital letters and digits correctly and to match the size of other writing. We will be using the authors linked to our class names as a basis for lots of our literacy work.
In science we will be learning about the differences between things which are alive, dead and have never been alive. We will learn what animals need for survival and recognise that animals live in different habitats which they are suited to. We will make extensive use of the school grounds in this science topic.
In humanities we will be comparing England and Kenya. This will involve identifying England, Kenya, the Equator and the Poles on a map. We will learn about basic similarities and differences between England and Kenya.
