YR Eileen Collins Class
Welcome to Reception!
This half term our topic will be 'People Who Help Us!'. 👮🚒🏥🩺
We are hoping to do lots of local visits to the many people that help us here in Biggin Hill. We are going to be focusing on firefighters, police, vets, paramedics, doctors, nurses, lollypop people & shop assisstants. Hopefully we will also get visitors in this term to speak to the children about their professions.
In maths we will continue to practise counting and forming numbers to 10 and beyond, counting out amounts as well as recognising and comparing numbers using the language one more and one less. 🎲 🔢 We will also continue with our work on repeated patterns (continuing, copying and creating patterns). Spatial awareness will also be looked at this year, the children will be developing their mathematical language and spatial reasoning.
Phonics will now be split into 3 different groups - focusing on the sounds & areas of reading/writing that they are comfortable with. We will continue to follow the 'Read, Write Inc' Phonics scheme. We are also beginning to learn our red words. These are words that we can't sound out and just have to read by sight. When spelling them we use the letter names.
