Y5 Abi Elphinstone Class
Our literacy work this half-term will be based around the book, 'Otto: The Autobiography of a Teddy Bear', by Tomi Ungerer. The children will begin by making predictions about the story theme and events by exploring images and props from the story, such as a bear and a typewriter. The children will eventually plan and write their own version of a historical story, using devices similar to those in the text. This is linked to our history topic about World War 2 and children can use their knowledge about events to weave into setting descriptions.
In maths we will be focusing on decimals and percentages, properties of shape, position and diection (e.g. reflecions and translations), converting units (e.g. mm, cm, m, km, g, kg, ml, L) and volume. We will continue to revisit key arithmetic skills, including multiplying by a two digit number and short division.
In RE, our big question is: Why do Christians worship in different ways?
In humanities, our big question is: How did World War 2 impact the lives of different people? (Anne Frank, The Blitz, children in London, lives of women)
The children will be learning athletics in PE and habitats in French.
Our Science big question is: How different will you be when you are as old as your grandparents? We will also be delivering our SRE teaaching (sex and relationships education).
