Jennie Baker Class

Our literacy work this half-term will be based around the picture book Flotsam written by David Wiesner, and the BBC Christmas advert ‘Sprout Boy’. We continue to plan our writing by discussing our ideas and create our own stories with characters, setting and plot. In non-fiction writing we will use headings and sub-headings to organise our writing and add detail to clarify information.

In maths we will develop our skills in multiplication and division and continue to learn our 3 and 4 times tables.  We will then use these skills to solve problems and explain our reasoning.  We will read measurements with increasing accuracy, compare, add and subtract measures and solve problems involving measurement.

Our science question is ‘What do rocks tell us about the way the Earth was formed?’  We will find out about different types of rocks and how they are formed, compare and classify different rocks, investigate the properties of different rocks and learn about fossils and fossil hunters.

Our geography question is ‘What makes the Earth angry?’ We will be learning about extreme natural events, such as volcanic eruptions and tsunamis.  We will learn about how they are caused and their effect on people.

We will continue to learn French.  We will learn the days of the week, colours and numbers to 20.  We will learn how to express our likes and dislikes.
