Jennie Baker Class

Our literacy work this half-term will be based around Cautionary Tales written by Hillaire Belloc and the picture book Flotsam written by David Wiesner. We will plan our writing by discussing our ideas and create our own stories with characters, setting and plot. We will begin to use paragraphs for a new setting. We will learn to use ‘a’ and ‘an’ correctly and begin to edit our work for punctuation and spelling errors.

In maths we will find 1, 10 or 100 more or less than any 3-digit number, count from 0 in multiples of 100 and recognise the place value of each digit in a three-digit number. We will read and write numbers to 1000 in words and numerals and compare and order numbers to 1000.  We will solve problems and explain our reasoning using these skills.

Our science question is ‘How did that blossom become an apple?’ We will find out what plants need to stay healthy. We will learn about the life cycle of plants and the roles played by bees and other animals.  We will carry out investigations to find what happens to the water in the soil that helps plants to grow.

Our history question is ‘Who first lived in Britain?’ We will find out what archaeologists do and why are they valuable in helping us find out about history.  We will learn about the lives of early Britons; where they lived, what they ate, how they communicated and how they moved heavy items.

We will start to speak French.  We will learn how to count, say hello and good bye and how to talk about ourselves and our families.
