Welcome to our Nursery Class! 

 

This half term our topic will be 'Space'. The children will be learning about planets and what we can see in the sky during the day and night. Here is a weekly breakdown of what the children will be doing 

Book Focus - How to catch a star -

Week 1 -  Just like the book - We will talk about making friends Listening to others and  helping one another.

Week 2 -  Looking at different ways we can catch a star.  Building tall towers,  using tools and telescopes.

Book focus - Whatever Next

Week 3 - Just like the book we will be building and roleplaying making our own spaceship to travel to the moon.

Week 4 - Taking a close look at the planets through the telescopes we will be making and encouraging the children to make observations on what they see.

Book focus Aliens Love Underpants 

Week 5 - Looking at similarities and differences and noticing what makes us unique and special.

Week 6 - Making our own aliens and talking about what we have created, making comparisons with our peers. 

 

Maths Focus - Looking at 2D shapes and shapes in the environment. Counting up to 20 and identifying Numbers 1 to 10. Looking at what can be counted in our classroom

 

Phonics Focus - Hear and say initial sounds in words. Linking sounds to letters, naming and sounding the letters of the alphabet. Looking at a selection of familiar stories linked to children’s interests and topics.  Mark making identifiable letters.

 

Challenge Area - We will be focusing on these mini challenges to help develop fine motor skills.

 

Week 1 - Using washing line and pegs to order numbers 1 to 10 - To strengthen and develop pincer grip.

Week 2 - Threading Tiny hoops and uncooked spaghetti - To develop pincer grasp and control.

Week 3 -  Feeding pipe cleaners and uncooked spaghetti through a calendar - hand eye coordination fine motor control.

Week 4 - Using tweezers to feed pom poms into plastic bottles - Strengthen grasp and develop hand eye coordination and sorting.

Week 5 -Pegs and peg boards - 

Week 6 -Clothes pegs and pictures- Story sequencing and the use of pegs to further strengthen and develop muscles in the hand.


Quick reminders! 

Forest School: Our Forest School session is Friday Morning. Please remember your waterproofs, wellies and outdoor coat. We go to Forest School whatever the weather - so always be prepared! ⛅🌨️☔🌈

PE: Our Sporty Stars Session is on a Wednesday Afternoon. Your child will need a named PE kit (top, shorts/tracksuit bottoms, plimpsolls). This will need to be in on your given day.
