Welcome to Reception!
This half term our topic will be '💫✨Magic, Witches & Castles'✨💫. The children will be learning about many different traditional/fairy tales.
Week 1: The Ugly Duckling 🦆- We will have a big focus on kindess and being a good friend.
Week 2: Jack and the Beanstalk 🌱- We will be listening to a range of different versions of this story including, Jack and the Baked Bean Stalk & Jack and the Beanstalk and the French Fries. We will also have a vote to see which version was our favourite.
Week 3: Hansel & Gretel 🍭🍬- We will be cooking this week. We are hoping to make our own gingerbread men. Map work will also be a focus this week.
Week 4: Sleeping Beauty 🌹- This week we will be creating our own crowns from a range of different resources. Last half term the children really enjoyed creating fruit smoothies, so we are wanting to do the same this week; but with different fruit.
Week 5: Cinderella 🧽🧹- Another focus on being kind and working together to achieve set goals. Can we work together to clean the classroom? Can we think of strategies together to help us make things easier?
Week 6: Little Red Riding Hood 🐺- More mapping skills and getting the children to have a go at creating our own healthy sandwiches independently.
In maths we will practise counting and forming numbers to 20, counting out amounts and recognising one more and one less. We will also be learning about 2D and 3D shapes.
Phonics is now in smaller groups - each group will be learning different sounds at different rates. We have phonics groups on the google classroom for you to access where the group teacher will tell you all about what we have learnt that week and what you can do at home.
We are also begin to learn our tricky words. These are words that we can't sound out and just have to read by sight. When spelling them we use the letter names. We listen to the 'tricky words song' for phase 2.
Here are the links below:
Some children have now begun phase 3 phonics where we finish single sounds and move onto digraphs & trigraphs.

We are encouraging the children to become more independent at school. This includes; sorting what needs to go where in the mornings e.g. water bottles, reading books, snacks etc. and with getting themselves dressed. Please encourage this at home too.
Please have a look at our class gallery to see what we have been up too! Also keep a look out on the class stream for updates and reminders.
