Red Kite Class

Our literacy work this half-term will be based around Gulliver’s Travels.  We will propose changes to grammar and vocabulary to improve consistency in our writing. We will proof read our writing for punctuation and spelling. We will express time, place and cause using prepositions.

When we read we will identify and comment upon different points of view and recognise features of a text which relate to its historical setting or cultural background.

In maths we will add using pounds and pence and subtract money to give change. We will understand and use vocabulary such as o’clock, am, pm, noon and midnight, read and write the time to the nearest minute on an analogue clock, calculate time and compare durations, read time on a 12 hour digital clock and compare to an analogue clock and read the time on a 24 hour digital clock.

Our science question is ‘What happens to your shadow during the day?’ We will make predictions before testing, measure using different equipment and units of measure, record our observations in different ways, describe what we have found out using scientific words, make accurate measurements using standard units, and explain what we have found out and how our measurements help us to answer a question.

Our humanities question is ‘Why do so many people go to the Mediterranean for their holidays?’ We will name some well-known European countries, name and locate the capital cities of some European countries, locate the Mediterranean on a map and use maps and atlases appropriately.

We will continue our recorder lessons and develop our skills in reading music. In French we will continue to count in French, name countries and name colours.
